Helpful Forms + FAQ's

The forms at the bottom of this page are designed to help us work together more easily. New clients are required to complete our General Intake Form + Informed Consent and Liability Waiver before your session.

Below are some of our most Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) to help you prepare for your session.

Should I arrive early?

Your massage therapist handles everything from check-in to check-out. We ask that you only arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment to discuss any health conditions and your goals for your massage. If you arrive more than 15 minutes early, the door may be locked to prevent disruption to the client before you. We honor your scheduled appointment time, so late arrivals will result in abbreviated massage time.

How should I prepare for my bodywork session?

We advise to begin nourishing your body with plenty of water in the 24 hours leading up to your session. Well-hydrated muscles respond more openly to bodywork and support the natural release of tension. Enjoy a light meal or snack beforehand so you feel comfortable while resting on the table. Heavier meals can make it harder to fully relax. Plan to arrive about 5–10 minutes early. This gives you a moment to settle in, use the restroom, and complete any remaining forms without feeling rushed. On the day of your session, a gentle warm shower can help to soften the muscles and calm the mind, preparing you for a deeply restorative experience. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that's simple to change out of and leave jewelry at home—or remove it before your session—to prevent discomfort and allow for smoother, uninterrupted bodywork. Communicate openly with your therapist about any health considerations, areas of tension, or intentions for the session. This helps us create a treatment that is fully aligned with your needs and well-being.

I've never had a massage. What should I expect?

When you arrive, your therapist will take a few moments to review your intake form with you, exploring any health considerations as well as your goals or areas of focus for the session. You will then be guided to the treatment room where your therapist will show you where to place your belongings and explain how to get comfortable on the massage table. Your therapist will step out to give you privacy as you undress to your comfort level, settle onto the table, and drape yourself. They will always knock and ask for permission before re-entering.

Throughout your session, only the area being worked on will be uncovered, with linens thoughtfully tucked to maintain your warmth and modesty. Your therapist will use a blend of nourishing oils and a variety of techniques to ease tension and support greater mobility.

Your comfort and communication are welcomed at every step. If you’d like more or less pressure, need an adjustment, or prefer your therapist avoid a certain area, simply let them know. Once the session starts, you are free to get comfortable. And if any questions arise, you’re invited to ask at any time. Your therapist will guide you gently as needed—such as inviting you to lift an arm or adjust your position—so you can remain relaxed throughout. Many clients choose to close their eyes, breathe deeply, and fully unwind, speaking up anytime they’d like more or less pressure, an extra blanket, or any other adjustment to enhance their comfort. If anything feels unclear or you’re curious about a particular technique, you’re always encouraged to ask. Your experience is a partnership, and your comfort is our guiding priority.

What should I do after the session?

Most clients leave their session feeling deeply relaxed and at ease. Many also notice relief from long-held tension or discomfort caused by stress, posture patterns, or repetitive movements. After an initial sense of calm and slowing down, it’s common to experience a renewed sense of energy, clearer awareness, and improved focus—benefits that often linger for days. We advise to stay hydrated after any bodywork session. It is also advised to avoid alcohol and heavy exercise immediately after your session.

Do I need to undress fully for the session?

Massage and bodywork are often performed with the client undressed, but your comfort and sense of safety always guide the process. You are invited to undress only to the level that feels right for you—whether that means removing all undergarments, keeping some on, or remaining fully clothed. Throughout your session, your modesty will be honored with mindful, secure draping using soft spa linens, with only the area being worked on uncovered.

Ashiatsu sessions are best experienced with minimal draping, however your comfort is always our top priority.

If you prefer to stay clothed, we can easily adapt your treatment by working through the fabric and incorporating supportive stretching. Your comfort, ease, and well-being are at the heart of every session.

Is massage sexual in nature?

We want to be absolutely clear: therapeutic massage is a professional healthcare service, and any suggestion otherwise is not tolerated. At Well-Grounded Massage + Bodywork, we uphold the highest standards of ethics, safety, and respect. Any inappropriate comments, requests, or insinuations will result in the immediate termination of the session. Our space is dedicated solely to wellness, healing, and the art of restorative touch.

What are the benefits of massage?

Massage and bodywork offer a wide range of therapeutic benefits for both body and mind. They can ease chronic muscular tension, soothe pain, enhance circulation, increase flexibility, and support healthier joint movement. Many people experience reduced stress and fatigue, improved posture, and quicker recovery from muscular strain or injury.

These therapies are also known to encourage deeper, more restful sleep, sharpen mental clarity, ease anxiety, and cultivate a lasting sense of balance and well-being throughout the entire body.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?

Absolutely. That’s why, before your session begins, your practitioner will review general health questions with you. It’s essential to share any medical conditions, medications, or recent injuries, as this information helps ensure a safe and effective session. If you are currently under a doctor’s care, it’s strongly recommended to obtain a written clearance for massage or bodywork beforehand. Certain conditions may require explicit approval from your healthcare provider to proceed safely.

What if I need to cancel my session?

Life moves in cycles, and sometimes plans need to shift. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. This allows your reserved time to be offered to another individual who may be seeking support and ensures the rhythm of the day remains balanced. A session that is missed without notice is considered a “no-show.” Because this time is held specifically for you, no-show appointments are not able to be rescheduled, and will be charged as a regular appointment.
